On the morning of March 24, 2026, the Vietnam Aviation Academy held a solemn ceremony to celebrate its 47th Traditional Day, reflecting on nearly half a century of growth.
The history of specialized aerospace education in Vietnam has achieved another significant milestone. The Vietnam Aviation Academy (VAA) officially celebrated its 47th Traditional Day (March 24, 1979 – March 24, 2026), marking nearly five decades of academic transformation. What began as a modest professional training facility under challenging conditions has successfully evolved into a multi-disciplinary higher education institution. Today, VAA stands as a central pillar in supplying qualified personnel for the rapidly expanding national and international aviation sectors.
The ceremony was attended by prominent figures, including Mr. Nguyễn Văn Nghĩa, Deputy Director of the Department of Organization and Personnel under the Ministry of Construction, alongside former academy directors, pilots, and Heroes of the People’s Armed Forces. During his keynote speech, Associate Professor Dr. Trần Hoài An, Director of VAA, emphasized that the academy’s journey has always been deeply intertwined with the development of Vietnam’s aviation industry. To date, VAA has supplied tens of thousands of skilled professionals—including commercial pilots, aerospace engineers, air traffic controllers, and corporate managers—to major domestic hubs like Tân Sơn Nhất and Nội Bài international airports, as well as global airlines.
Looking ahead, VAA is actively restructuring its academic frameworks to match the demanding requirements of a rapidly modernizing industry. The academy is aggressively updating its training curricula to align with the stringent global standards set by ICAO and IATA. Concurrently, a comprehensive digital transformation strategy is underway to establish a full “Smart University” ecosystem by 2030. As mega-infrastructure developments like the Long Thành and Gia Bình international airport projects advance, the urgency for highly adaptable, tech-savvy aviation personnel has never been higher. “We are no longer training simply to fulfill domestic quotas; our ultimate objective is to export premium, high-quality aviation talent to regional and global markets,” Associate Professor Dr. Trần Hoài An stated.
The celebration also served as a meaningful platform to honor the foundations of VAA’s success. The academy presented commemorative medals to former leaders and long-serving faculty members, while also honoring student teams who achieved top marks in recent national academic competitions. This balance of respecting institutional heritage while pushing for global integration defines VAA’s next chapter. Supported by state regulatory bodies and international partners, the academy is firmly positioned to enhance its research capabilities, expand cross-border training alliances, and remain the premier talent incubator for the future of global aviation.
